Montana’s only Pay What you Can Cafe: Food. Opportunity. Education.

We believe nobody should go to bed hungry.

HRDC’s Community Café invites you to enjoy a delicious evening meal without the hassle of cooking or clean up!

The Community Cafe is Montana’s only “Pay What You Can Cafe” open 365 days per year from 5pm – 7pm.  Come by and enjoy a terrific and healthy meal, where YOU set the price. If you can give more, please do. If you have a little less, pay what you can. The Community Cafe helps to build a healthy community by providing a basic need of food in a respectful and dignified manner to everyone who walks through the door.  We are located at 302 N. 7th Avenue in the former Frontier Pies building, sharing the block with the Royal 7 Motel.

The Café is a widely used community resource.  In 2014, we served over 50,000 hot meals; over 80 individuals and families enjoy meals at the Café each evening, and our customers are from all walks of life.  Families take their children out to dinner and are greeted by a host, seated at their table, a server offers the menu for the evening and their meal is delivered to their table.  Older adults join us for social interaction.  Teens and young adults who have ventured out on their own utilize the Café for a balanced meal.  Single working people stop by on their way home from work.  In some cases the Café provides folks their only meal of the day.

A crew of volunteers and community partners lead the charge to run the Café.  Each evening, between 8-10 community members volunteer as hosts, food servers, table bussers and dish washers.  A variety of opportunities exist for you to become involved with the HRDC’s Community Café.
